How to clean your menstrual cup while you have your period

Remember to always wash your hands first. Empty your cup and rinse in cold water (cold water prevents staining) and reinsert.

For a deeper clean and you are at are at home, wash in cold water using a mild unscented soap then reinsert. 

You also might want to use the Bohokiwi Brush to clean the small air holes in the cup as sometimes you will get a little build-up there. 

How to clean your cup in a public toilet

Remember to wash your hands first. Remove the cup and empty it into the toilet and use water to rinse if available, then reinsert. If you don't have access to water use toilet paper to wipe down and then reinsert.

How to sanitise your menstrual cup when your period is finished

After your period is over, it is essential to sanitise your cup prevent bacteria growth.

Wash your cup using mild unscented soap and our bohokiwi Brush to remove any difficult stains, especially around the small airholes.

1. Bohokiwi Steriliser method.

Fill the steriliser with boiling water and leave for 10 minutes or fill the steriliser half way with water and pop into the microwave for 3 minutes depending on your microwave. Make sure the water doesn't boil. Leave to dry and store in our bohokiwi Storage Bag until your next cycle.

2. Boiling method.

Boil a pot of water on the stove and then put your cup in the pot for about 10 mins. We recommend that you place your cup inside of a metal whisk to prevent the cup sitting on the bottom of the pot. Leave to dry and store in our bohokiwi Storage Bag until your next cycle.

How do I remove difficult stains?

If your cup is stained;

  • Let it sit under the sun for a couple hours after cleaning.
  • Make a diluted white vinegar solution by combining one part vinegar to 9 parts water. Because vinegar is a natural sanitising agent, it will clean out your cup without any of the artificial ingredients. Leave for a couple of hours,  rinse and store or use. 
  • Soak your cup in a  3% solution of hydrogen peroxide for 2 hours then boil it for 10 mins, let it dry and store.
